Security & privacy

Is my financial data private and secure?

Yes. All your data is encrypted both in transit (as it moves between your device and the cloud) and at rest (while stored) on AWS. Each user can only access their own records, and sign-in is handled by AWS Cognito. Your numbers are yours alone.

Where is my data stored, and is it backed up?

Your records live in managed AWS cloud storage, which automatically keeps redundant copies across infrastructure so a single hardware failure can't lose your data. You don't have to do anything โ€” it syncs and backs up in the background.

Is my payment information stored securely?

We never store your card details. All payments are handled by Stripe, which is PCI DSS Level 1 certified โ€” the highest level of payment security. Snow Debt Crusher never sees your full card number.

The snowball method

Why pay off my smallest debt first instead of the highest interest rate?

Snow Debt Crusher uses the debt snowball, which targets the smallest balance first. It builds fast, motivating wins, and each payoff rolls into the next debt. The "avalanche" method (highest rate first) saves a little more money on paper, but the snowball is the one most people actually finish. See the Snowball Plan guide.

How do I know which debt to pay this month?

The app flags your smallest active balance as the TARGET. Pay the minimums on everything else and throw all your extra at the target. When it's gone, the next smallest becomes the target automatically.

How does the dashboard chart get updated?

Update your balances in My Debts, then click Record Monthly Snapshot in Settings at the end of each month. Each snapshot adds a point to your "Debt Over Time" chart.

What's the difference between Free, Grinder, and Boss?

Free โ€” up to 3 debt accounts, the core snowball plan, and cloud-synced storage. Grinder ($4.99/mo) โ€” up to 10 accounts, plus the target date planner, income-vs-debt analysis, full NY-style coaching, payoff milestones, and CSV export. Boss ($7.99/mo) โ€” unlimited accounts, everything in Grinder, custom debt categories, advanced analytics, and priority email support. Full details on Billing & Plans.

When am I charged, and how often?

You're charged immediately when you upgrade. After that, Stripe bills you on the same date each month until you cancel.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel anytime from the Billing page and you drop back to the Free plan while keeping all your data. If you have more than 3 accounts, the extras are hidden (never deleted) and return when you upgrade again.

Which cards do you accept?

All major credit and debit cards via Stripe โ€” Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.

The New York coaching

Why does the app talk to me like that?

Because accountability works. When your debt drops, you get a celebration. When it climbs, you get a mad emoji and a wake-up call. When you pay off an account, you get told to go enjoy a nice meal โ€” cash only. It's all in good fun, and it's there to keep you honest and on track, New York style. ๐Ÿ—ฝ

Can I change the language or turn down the attitude?

You can switch the interface between English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese in Settings. The coaching is part of the experience, but the intensity of the messaging scales with your plan โ€” basic accountability on Free, full coaching on Grinder and up.

Troubleshooting

I forgot my password. How do I reset it?

On the Sign In screen, click Forgot password? We'll email you a reset code so you can set a new password.

My dashboard chart is empty or flat.

The chart needs monthly snapshots to plot. Record at least a couple of snapshots (one per month) from Settings, and the "Debt Over Time" line will start to fill in.

I can't add another debt.

You've likely hit your plan's account limit โ€” 3 on Free, 10 on Grinder. Upgrade on Billing & Plans to add more.

Some of my debts disappeared after I canceled.

They're not gone โ€” they're hidden. Dropping to Free limits you to 3 accounts, so extras are tucked away (never deleted). Upgrade again and they return exactly as you left them.
